Japanese Model train N scale manufacturers
- TomixNot many will know, but this make is one of the world's largest manufacturers of miniature railways, it is a branch operation of Tomy, one of the world's largest toy manufacturers.
Tomix carry a huge range of Japanese N-scale and a small range of Japanese HO.
Tomix does not make models of non-Japanese trains, apart from a 'Thomas the Tank Engine' range, very appealing to children of all ages.

They carry a large range of 'N' scale model railways and a small but growing range of HO scale railway models. Kato makes a track system for both scales and a range of strucutures for 'N' scale.
The real name of the Kato company is Sekisui Kinzoku, but that is hard to pronounce for those who don't speak Japanese.

World Kogei is a manufacturer of N-scale brass kits, some of which are also available assembled and painted. For a brass kit these models are relatively easy to build, but they all require soldering expirience and the use of some special modelling tools and skills.
Most loco models use a Tomix or Kato chassis so chassis building is not necessary and it solves the hardest part of building a good running model. Though, some loco kits have their own chassis, which is included in the kit.

The Endo range includes many private railway EMU's, along with some JR stock.
Endo's models normally use a Tomix or Green Max chassis that carries a brass superstructure. Detail is not at the level of Kato or Tomix, but Endo models are hand-made of brass and only a bit more expensive than the models made by Kato and Tomix.
Detail is a bit coarser than with the mass-made plastic models, distance between vehicles is wider and there are no front and rear lights.
